5 Awesome Tips For Finding Free Money

When I was a kid I wanted a Nintendo. Yep, just a plain old NES. But my parents wouldn’t buy me one. That’s what started me on the entrepreneurial path. Every passing moment I started contriving ideas for how to get the money I needed to buy a Nintendo.

All entrepreneurs, at one point or another, wonder whether there are ways to squeeze free money out of the world. So did I. In fact, though I hate to admit it, I wondered whether my parents would notice if I just took a few quarters out of the change bowl each day. I knew they probably wouldn’t, but I also felt bad for even considering the idea, so I didn’t do it.

But ever since then, I’ve had my eye out to identify strategies for finding free money. So here’s a little bit of info that I’ve collected for all ya’ll economic parasites (this is all a little tongue in cheek, by the way). These are all ways that I’ve managed to get, what I view as “unearned cash.”

Now don’t get me wrong. Clearly the best way to acquire money is not by trying to get it free, but to be productive. Production produces wealth, plain and simple. Nonetheless, our economy has become so redundant that it is now capable of supporting totally non-productive individuals.

Five Tips For For Finding Free Money

1. Setup a niche website

Ok. Here’s the deal. Pretend that you know something really well. Setup a website. Keep pretending that you the topic of the website really well. Write about what you’re pretending to know about. Keep writing. Soon you’ll feel like you actually know what you’ve been writing about. What you end up with in the end is a free education on the topic that you’ve been writing about, plus a niche website that you can slap some ads up on, and, well, get some free money.

2. Get your brain scanned

This is a great one for all you college students. At Princeton University, you can get paid something like $50-$100 per hour for doing fMRI scans. Whether you go to a billion dollar endowed school or not, chances are that your local psych or neuroscience department is looking for subjects. Just lay back, relax, and come out the other end $50 richer.

3. Sell Links

Talk about the easiest method for getting free money, and lots of it. Get a site with a PR6 and your golden. Sit back, relax, and let the cash flow in. I’ve never seen such an utterly ridiculous micro-economy develop in the history of the world. But here we are. Take advantage of it while you can.

4. Contract your work out

Ok. Here’s a secret. Mention to your local dentist or realtor that you design websites (whether you do or not). Quote them a price in the thousands. Then contract the work out to someone in India or the Philippines or even a cheap designer in the US. You’ve made money. You’ve done no work. You’re lazy, like me. You’ve made free money.

5. Give your opinion

Companies are constantly doing market research to improve their products (well, to improve their bottom line). Companies are especially attracted to college students. College students represent both the current generation and the next generation of adults. Getting their fingers on this critical bridge between generations is very seductive to many businesses. For that reason, you can expect to get paid for your opinion. Once I was paid $100 from a mutual fund company for my opinion while in college. They saw me as a potential lifetime customer, I suppose.
