Selling GamingPCGuide

June 9th, 20065 Comments

I’ve decided to sell GamingPCGuide.com at SitePoint.com’s marketplace. You can look at the sale directly through this link.

I am selling the site, along with the rights to the custom template I designed, and so I’m asking a bit more than the standard multiple of monthly revenue. I think the $125 is a fair starting price, and if someone decides to “Buy It Now” I’d be thrilled. I’ve gone through my auction process, my thoughts on honesty, and all of that before, so I won’t go into that here.

If you’re interested in bidding, all the information is at the SitePoint.com auction.

Why I’m selling

I explained in the auction thread that I am selling because I don’t know much about gaming PCs. That’s true. I just don’t. I like playing games, I like playing games with cool graphics. I know that I need a powerful video card and I know that I need a lot of RAM. Beyond that, I don’t care about the differences between nVidia and ATI. I don’t care about the 3FPS increase the faster RAM gives me. And that’s why I’m selling.

I think someone that is more passionate about gaming computers will have fun writing and learning on the site. I think they’ll pump out new content regularly and make more money with the site.

I simply can’t “fake it” and sound interested in a topic that I’m not interested in. I’ll be focusing on niche blogging still, but it will be on topics I know about and topics I’m interested in.

Expect an update to this post after the auction has been completed.

UPDATE:

Someone by the name of “Mike” has been commenting to this post accusing me of lying or and misstating my earnings in a previous post. I have deleted that content from the previous post to avoid confusion and deleted Mike’s comment’s because they are ridiculous.

In my first post about GamingPCGuide.com I stated my earnings were at $1.50 a day – and they were at the time. Since then they have dropped off. I’m selling because I don’t want to invest time and money into a blog or website I’m not passionate about. If you want more information, please feel free to email me.

Hey Ben,
Love your blog. Keep on wondering how you combine a school career and these blog(s).
Great open communication on the selling of this blog.

Net2pt0 | June 10, 2006

I listed Net 2.0 on Sitepoint and got a few bad comment myself such as “My Bid $0.00″ but I just ingnored them.

I have decided against selling the site and since then I have redesigned the theme and installed a few clean adsense bars and I think I will continue to develop the site on my own.

Im not sure if I’ll sell it in the future but at the moment its staying with me!

Do you think Net2pt0 is worth $0.00??

I think CollegeStartup is great and the college/make money spirit is very focused but one must remain studying hard as I think in the long run a good solid, well paid job has more income than blogging!

Good luck on the sale. The real estate domain market is really booming, I can only imagine what would happen if they decided to go with the “.xxx”. $$$

Just wanted to leave a quick note saying that I was the purchaser of Gaming PC Guide, and that I’ve released the theme to the public here:
