What to do when others trash your work
It can be very daunting to see a project you worked sleepless nights on get busted like a useless piece of crap. Pessimism may worm its way into your mind. “I just don’t deserve it,” you tell yourself. But everyone, even a topnotch worker, goes through failures once in a while. So be optimistic!
Get over the drama with the following tips:
Keep your mind free of negativity. Tell yourself that failing doesn’t make you a less competent worker. Though it’s sometimes inevitable to depress yourself with negative thoughts about you being a second-rate loser, etc., try really hard to toss those thoughts. Take the situation as an opportunity to enhance your skills and better yourself.
Try harder. Perhaps the main reason why some people frown upon your work is that it appears mediocre to them. Maybe it lacks something vital. What you do then is improve, if not perfect your work. Find out whatever it is that lacks, and incorporate it the next time you do the same project.
Save your work. Remember that perfection is relative to a person, so what may be crap to someone may be great to another. Behind all those disapproving faces, there will always be someone who will see your work in a different light. You still can use it in the future.
Ask for other people’s advice. Before passing subsequent works, ask someone – maybe a close friend, an office mate or your mom – to see your work first. There might be a big mistake you failed to see. Have someone to proofread it, as second opinions always help.
Never quit. This sounds so cliché. But remember, you should never quit after a failure, as it’s not the end of the world if you fail. You have all the opportunities for improvement.
