Microsoft releases SSE

November 21st, 20052 Comments

Lately I’ve been talking a lot about content websites and how to create passive income through content. While that’s a lot of fun and provides for some nice returns, it’s really just a way for me to fund bigger, better ideas.

What am I talking about? Well, I want to start a company that is big, successful, and has happy employees. That means I always pay attention to new technology, what the latest technology trends and business trends are, etc.

Today I was browsing through my regular feeds and on CrunchNotes I saw that Microsoft announced Simple Sharing Extensions (SSE). Remember that acronym - you will be hearing it all the time.

What does this do? (from CrunchNotes)

For example, SSE could be used to share your work calendar with your spouse. If your calendar were published to an SSE feed, changes to your work calendar could be replicated to your spouse’s calendar, and vice versa. As a result, your spouse could see your work schedule and add new appointments, such as a parent-teacher meeting at the school, or a doctor’s appointment.

SSE allows you to replicate any set of independent items (for example, calendar entries, lists of contacts, list of favorites, blogrolls) using simple RSS semantics. If you can publish your data as an RSS feed, the simple addition of SSE will allow you to replicate your data to any other application that implements the SSE specification.

SSE can also be used to extend other formats such as OPML.

That’s just the beginning. Think of all the new web services that are going to be launched with this.

Got pointed over here from Yaro’s post about Niche Content. I’m right there with you on trying to create passive income to help fund bigger better ideas … interested to see how this works out for you! Looks like you’ve got a good site here and I’m always looking to network with big thinkers, so perhaps we can get some dialog going in the future. Take Care.

Ah, this one caught me a little off-guard. I thought you were talking about SSE as in the kind Pentiums have.

Share your thoughts!!!
