How to sell more during the holidays
The holidays are that time of year when impulse shoppers and merry-makers take to the streets and log on to the internet to buy, buy, and buy.
For your part, you’d like to sell. Why? Because the holiday season means one thing: riper pickings. People are more likely to buy not out of need, but of want during the cheery months of November and December.
Start early. Christmas need not be for December only. Every day starting October will be hunting season. You’ll find that holiday shoppers like to start early. If you want to be ahead of things, you should be present to fill that demand.
Be sure that all throughout the season, you will have a steady source of supplies. Packages –if you do regular shipping –usually slow down during December. Be ready to up your shipping rates; choose those that will guarantee a certain number of days for delivery.
Stock up on hot items. What will likely be in demand in the real world will go for those in the virtual world. Whether they’re iPods or PSPs, popular items are the way to go. If, on the other hand, you have other things in mind, remember that “gifts” are the main event. Be sure that your product can be marketed as such.
Sales are a people magnet. You may want to pair your product with free shipping or other “freebies”; that way, they know they’re getting the value for their money. This is also a powerful marketing tool.
Find a reliable, fast way for people to pay for the product you sell. Online shopping carts are convenient, only if you’re selling through the net. Regardless, be sure that you state your policies plainly.
Never least, tell your client that all this is for the holidays. Put up a façade, whether it’s a website or a brochure, showing them that it’s the season to be merry.
