Why it’s okay to let go of some of your clients

Clients are the heart of your business; they can help you make it or break it. Your relationship with them is also a two-way street. But when the street turns one way, and you are suffering more than you are profiting from your relationship with them, it’s probably time to let them go.
It’s okay to let go of clients; our primary fear is reprisal and wading into unfamiliar waters –such as searching for new clients. Remember that even though you’ve been working with your client for a long time, you should weigh in their ability to deliver, to be professional, and to be fair. The loss of any or all of these will require serious inquiry as to if you’ll drop them or not. It’s simply a matter of being cost-effective, and of keeping your bit of sanity.
It isn’t worth your trouble to be stressed or overworked for so small a price. If your client isn’t paying enough and if they’re being jerks about it, you may want to move into greener pastures. People get old very fast when faced with someone they can hardly talk to, much less negotiate with on a daily, even weekly basis.
It isn’t worth losing your sense of wonderment for mediocre work. Clients who cannot deliver, will not bring in the bucks and make money for you both. If they refuse to pay on time, you will be forced to operate at a loss and if it happens often enough, it will probably be best for you both to simply part ways.
Too little butter on too much bread won’t satisfy anybody’s palate. Having too many clients can also be a problem; don’t spread yourself too thin. Know your limits and know how to let go.
Every action your clients incur will have consequences for you both. You, as a serious entrepreneur, should be critical about what they deal –and in this case, who will deal –for with the right cards, luck can favor your both.
