Another attempt at niche marketing

May 28th, 200614 Comments

Gaming PC GuideI’ve been avoiding working on niche content sites for a while, but I’ve decided to give it another go. My first attempt in a while is located at GamingPCGuide.com. The goal of the site is to review computers, computer hardware, etc. Down the line, if it’s making a decent monthly income I might keep it. If I think I can get a decent return in a few weeks, I might sell it. It depends on how quickly the site grows.

The problem is, I don’t know much about gaming computers - something that you’ll likely find evident if you read any of the articles. The monetization plan is AdSense and affiliate marketing. I’ve had success with the Alienware affiliate program, I actually made a nice paycheck a few months back after someone bought an expensive computer through my affiliate link. I’ve also signed up for some consumer electronic outlet affiliate programs and integrated AdSense into the site.

So what next? Well, since I don’t feel like I know much about affiliate marketing, I think the best option is to hire a writer or two. So, if you’re interested in writing and you’re familiar with gaming computers, send an email to ben.bleikamp [at] gmail [dot] com and hopefully we’ll be able to work out a deal.

My goal, this summer at least, is to be able to earn about $300 profit a month ($10 a day) from AdSense only. Obviously I’ll be earning some more money from affiliate marketing and other projects, but if I can earn $300 a month from AdSense I’ll be able to afford a new car from AdSense alone. Cool.

$1.50 a day is much better than what I’m getting haha.

Dennis - you’re probably not getting many clicks on a blog about money/entrepreneurship because the people reading your blog are “blind” to AdSense.

I know that when I am at a site I hardly even notice the AdSense ads - they stand out as ads to me and I simply ignore them.

Nice looking site.

The DELL XPS is hot, by the way. When I bought my new desktop last fall, I looked at Alienware v. the XPS and found the XPS to be much cheaper. It’s been a damn fine machine.

First off Ben you need to do a post on ProBlogging.com about this. It will serve multiple purposes. It will give you linkage! Which will increase your pagerank, more revenue etc.

Back for a second comment. Next release that theme you have there for other niche marketers. Require a link bank in the license. And badda bing within a few months you should double your revenue. Also.
With your adsense profits dump it back into text link ads, and adwords. You should see a spiked traffic results. Overall its the best site layout for niche marketing I’ve seen in awhile.

Hi Ben, nice looking niche site, one thing you have forgotten is to remove the default wordpress about page at the bottom of your about page.

Damon Z | May 29, 2006

Wow, indeed that’s not bad. If it’s not too, how much are you grossing overwhole with all your blogs and adsense?

Robb Dunewood | May 29, 2006

If you don’t know much about Gaming PCs you can use this blog as a way to learn. If, however, you find that it is difficult to write something everyday, or, are already getting bored with the topic, you may have picked the wrong niche.

I thought that the adsense is “too blended” and if it’s “too blended, you are just fluff and trying to get me to click the ads. Like a spam site, I was cautious to hover my mouse over all links. You can barely notice that you have individual posts .. they look like H3 titles, not post titles .. at least the date is at the end of the summary post.

So, except for that - I really like the design and think this is a perfect design for those wanting a ‘website’ but using wordpress blog. David’s right - when’s the release available? I’m looking for a template for a product blog. This is close.

I love the design, and I hoping the content with continue to grow and even a link exchange in the future…

[...] Waarom Ben twee schrijvers zocht? Het project werd ‘Another attempt at niche marketing‘. [...]

[...] I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do with this space, but things haven’t been totally dead around here. I’ve recently purchased the website Gaming PC Guide which was sold by Ben Bleikamp with a custom coded Wordpress Theme that I think is one of the finer themes I’ve seen for niche marketing. You can read about the development of the theme (and of the Gaming PC Guide site) here. [...]

Krug is a smart guy, so I had to jump on this when I saw it for sale. I’ve done as he suggested and released the theme here:

Thanks again Ben.
