My first rip

Well I’m flattered that someone has stolen a design from me.

http://investorial.com/

Not a bad implementation, of course…the theme isn’t available for public distribution so he’s breaking some rules. I’m flattered, but I’ve sent him a nice email asking him to take it down and I’m sure he’ll be happy to do so. If not we’ll see what happens next.

Oh – and I wouldn’t be too upset, except for:

If you are a regular Investorial reader, you may already have notice the new layout design. I spent the whole day creating this design on my PC and finally felt it was ready to be ported to the site.

I think that’s pretty funny, it certainly shouldn’t take all day to copy/paste a stylesheet…

He also mentions how people with IE6 were having trouble and how this design addresses that issue, so while I didn’t do any browser tests, I think it was nice of him to do so for me. And sure using a stylesheet isn’t a big deal, but he also copied my graphics and the layout exactly. Not too cool.

THE LAST UPDATE:

Vince and I have come to an agreement and he will be allowed to use the theme I developed at his website. I will not discuss the details, but I think it’s fair and we’re both happy with it. While I think it was wrong to steal my design, once I contacted Vince he was very quick to email me back and try to come up with a deal that would make us both happy.

Hopefully this is the last time I’ll have to deal with something like this.

Who knows … maybe he just had all the same inspirations. Though if I remember correctly it took you a few days to work all of that out, code it, and implement it onto the web, so I guess he’s better at it than you?

Haha, what a chump.

He didn’t have all the same inspirations. If you look at the style sheet code it is exactly the same. EXACTLY. He just lifted it from Ben’s site and saved it as his own.

I hate Vince. He’s a loser. There should be some sort of organized way to “flame out” idiots like him.

Mike Rundle | June 18, 2006

I’m not sure why you guys are messing around here, a DMCA notice to his ISP will instantly get his attention.

Mike – Vince was emailing me back quickly and this morning we started talking about payment and we finally came to a deal that made us both happy.

Emailing his host was next on my list of things to do. I talked to Derek (5thirtyone.com) and he recommended the same thing :)

Check out his old theme and then check out mine. Mine was a long and arduous modification of the equix theme… there were some very glaring similarities.
