Reminded of the need for perseverence

September 27th, 20084 Comments

I wrote an article a while back about how I think that the key to success online is perseverance.

Recently, I’ve needed my own advice. I tend to expect immediate results these days, primarily because I have several online properties where I do receive immediate results.

However, as I start major new projects like College Crunch I’m being forced to remind myself that the payoff on new projects is 3-5 years down the road. Not today. I want to be making 5 figures off College Crunch today, not 3-5 years down the road! But I’ve just got to be patient and keep plugging away, improving things a little bit each day.

That’s the mindset for bootstrapping success online. Just a little bit each day.

CC looks like a winner based on its slick design and quasi-serious tone geared towards college students. You can’t go wrong aiming for the 18-24 demographic, except watch out for the endless competition.

Pretty clever ad placement on the front page especially. It makes me think it’s part of the page, not just some annoying ad.

I have been in this situation quite a few times. It is hard to keep going, but getting a good target setting session in at the beginning and writing down the benefits of staying long term always re motivate me.

College Crunch looks brilliant by the way.

There is a great book by Seth Godin about this called “The Dip” In it he talks about our expectation for immediate results and what we need to do to navigate through the dry spell.
