Yes, College Startup Got Hacked
Many of you are sending me emails about this, so I thought I’d publicly acknowledge that College Startup was hacked with Malware/Badware and sat with it for about 1 week.
My understanding is that the malware/badware that was on this site was not harmful, but rather intended to juice some lazy ass SEO. As far as I know, I’ve taken down all the malware/badware. If you happen to see any indications that it is still on this site, please contact me at ryan@college-startup.com immediately.
Learn a lesson from my experience. If you use the same username/password combo too often across the webernets, it gets into the wrong hands. Sooner or later, all your sites with that username/password combo will get index file defacement of some sort (and index file defacement is the worst of your worries, but it still sucks).
I had about 15 sites that got smacked like this. Putting out fires sucks. Take preventive measures to make sure this doesn’t happen to you cuz it really can ruin your week.
