Your Web Working Toolbox: MySpace and Facebook
I’ve only just started using Facebook for my personal account and man, oh man…is it addicting! I can easily know what my friends are doing and what they’re interested in. I, in turn, participate in applications sent to me, or I can easily invite them to events.
MySpace and Facebook both have the capabilities that allow you to do a number of things that traditional marketing cannot.
Set up your account and choose a good lay-out.
Over half of Facebook’s users use it daily while users whom you’d like to add on MySpace will likely choose to view your profile. You may want to have an attractive site with enough updated content.
Find your customer base.
You have to decide what your customers want and jump right into the fray. If you’re in a dog collar business, you can look people up who have “dogs” listed as their interest. From there, you can add them as friends; they’ll be able to keep tabs on you, as you can on them. The key here isn’t to add friends indiscriminately. It’s to choose your market niche and build a solid customer base. From there, you may also join Groups that are related to your business interests.
Add links to your company web page.
Think of your account as a road-sign. Preferably, your MySpace or Facebook account should NOT be your company’s main web page but they can certainly lead traffic to that important piece of internet property. Provide links to your MySpace or Facebook account from there as well.
Conversation is a two-way street.
The Wall in Facebook and the comments section on MySpace are places you can hold such conversations. You can reply to comments on MySpace directly while customer feedback adorns your Facebook Wall. Be sure to listen to your customers.
The best things in life are free. So if you plan to own a chunk of internet real estate besides the web site or e-groups you’ve set up, MySpace and Facebook provide you with powerful marketing tools for precisely that at no cost to you.
