Keep Your Eyes open and Don’t be Lazy
During some downtime this past week, I started browsing the Ticket Exchange Facebook group for my university’s website, curious as to what football tickets were going for now that our football team is nationally ranked at a surprising #25 in the nation. I was pretty surprised to see single game tickets going for $30+ apiece, when season tickets cost just $50 now with three games remaining.
So obviously I realized people are making money. I went to the group, posted my unpurchased tickets for sale, and received offers giving me a profit of $75 if I were to buy my two allotted sets of season tickets. So after 10 minutes of Facebooking I made a potential $75. Now I just spent 10 minutes buying the tickets, and may spend another 40 minutes getting the tickets to people, but $75 profit for an hour is easy.
Lesson #1: Keep your eyes open. Sure, I’m late to the ticket exchange party and could have made an additional $75 had I started at the beginning of the season, but the key is action. Get off your ass and do it.
Lesson #2: My friends and roommates, who are also business students, are too damn lazy to do the same thing when I even offered handing them the extra ticket buyers in my Facebook inbox. Conclusion? Well, most everyone is lazy, and there are easy opportunities out there to make some quick money once and awhile. But something tells me that my fellow business majors, who are suppose to be tomorrow’s leaders, will continue with their lack of get up and go initiative for the rest of their lives, which translates into real opportunities for entrepreneurs like you and I in the future.
So if you take away anything, there are opportunities out there, don’t be a lazy pile but do something about it when they arise, and enjoy watch everyone else on the sideline get farther behind. Meanwhile, I learned a lesson, made some party money, and feel better about my commitment to being an entrepreneur.
I always find it amazing, when people are prepared to pay outrageous amounts, for things they could get easily for themselves…oh well, more money for me!
