My Business Goals and Resolution for 2008

January 5th, 20081 Comment

As mentioned in my previous post about how to set New Year’s Resolutions, I decided to reveal my own resolution and goals for 2008. My New Year’s Resolution is simply “Focus” with applying the term in two different ways. First is by focusing my energy on growing just a few sites compared to many sites. Secondly, I’m looking to be more efficient with my time since I waste a lot of it. So focusing and limiting my wasted time will be key to my success.

So for my more specific goals that will give me a means to eventually satisfying my desire to “focus,” here they are….

Online Business

Operate Fewer sites - I want to sell 3 Travel Blogs and Carmen Electra Blog because I haven’t stuck to my gameplan to make them successful, so I figure I’d rather just part with them than try to get them to the next level. I know I haven’t put the time in, but I’d rather use that time elsewhere

Take Three Sites to the Next Level - My budget travel blog, Cancun travel blog, and brand new Business Student blog are basically all I’m going to try to focus on this next year. They are all at different stages in their lives, and it’ll be interesting to see how they perform when I put similar time into each one. For a little insight, these are my ideas for each one.

Budget Globetrotting - Find guest bloggers regularly. Post much more regularly. Maybe try to expand the blog to more of a magazine style similar to BraveNewTraveler.com

Cancun Blog - Find and hire a reliable, credible blogger for revenue sharing (old one abandoned me quickly). Find representation in the Cancun travel community and other travel forums. Local advertisers offer a new revenue stream I’ve never broke into. Potential for sponsored pages/ads for tours, excursions, and rentals in Cancun. Contests could be a hit as well.

A Business Student Blog - Pretty much just have fun blogging here. I’ll enjoy it, and I think there is definitely an unsatisfied market for undergraduate rambling business student bloggers. Lots of topics available to cover, and it’ll be an interesting diary/account for me to reflect on upon graduation. I’ll participate in forums to gain loyal readers. Try to create some digg-able/stumble-able satirical content. Will need some luck to get some exposure though.

I’m pretty confident, that if I focus and execute these plans, I will have a successful 2008 with these three sites. So hopefully in 2009 I will be able to celebrate these accomplishments.

In addition to these business goals, I also have a short list of personal goals and academic/career related goals posted at my future hit blog for undergraduate business school students ;)… (shameless plug)

My Business Goals and Resolution for 2008

I also would like to operate fewer sites in 2008. The plan always starts out to write equally on all of them and build each of them up in their own way, but soon after you - or at least I - realize that it’s better to focus more closely on a few then spread yourself too thin.

Good luck to you in 2008!
