I remember as a college student wondering what would set me apart when it came time to apply for jobs and scholarships. A lot of times I would actually get depressed, because it occurred to me that there would always be someone who was smarter or more qualified than I (those of you who are like me and uber-self-critical know what I’m talking about).

The important thing is to differentiate yourself in subtle ways. Make yourself stand out, not with flashy but empty ploys, but in ways that display your creative intelligence.
