[...] The unfortunate fact is that you can’t just build a website and expect it to succeed. You need to get eyeballs on your site. That’s where web promotion comes in. I highly recommend starting things off by using the tips I give in 5 Steps To Jumpstart Your Website. But even that’s not enough. You’ll need to leverage linkage from the very getgo. Do you know someone who already has a presence on the web who might be able to help you out? If so, get some link love. If not, you’ll have to go Mining for Text Link Ads and while you’re at it, probably get hooked to them like crack. [...]

Robb,
It's not always easy, and sometimes I can't figure it out, but most of the time I use either the image or the description for google searches and more often than not I find the site.

As you are doing your research and finding hidden gems, how are you find the URLs of the sites that you want to take a look at in SEOMoz to see if they are undervalued?

[...] Over at college-startup, there’s a fantastic new post about a kink (loophole?) in the Text-Link-Ad system that allows high ranking sites for a low cost. The idea behind it is that Text-Link-Ads don’t update their pricing after Google has their PR update. I think what David (the author) doesn’t realize is that PR is NOT A FACTOR when it comes to price, as proven by my interview. However, he is right about one thing – a blogs worth is improved over time, how do TLA keep up to date? (Should have been one of my interview questions eh?) Many new publishers submit their site to TLA as PR4 and PR5 sites. The value of their links is usually assessed at less than $25. But, if the blog or website is continually updated with good content, its overall value tends to increase with time BUT this is not reflected at TLA. [...]

BTW, College Startup was listed at $20 on TLA until yesterday. It got bumped up to $40 after we realized that College Startup was itself Hidden Gold.
