Does College Spring Break = Decline in traffic?
I run enough websites now that I get a pretty good feel for general trends in web traffic, even the subtler ones. Everyone sees the Christmas decline. I think everyone sees the July 4th decline.
Keep in mind here that I’m talking about general traffic declines as opposed to niche specific declines.
Anyway, not until this year did I pick up on what I’ll call the “Spring Break Decline.” I’m not sure why I hadn’t picked up on it in the past, but it’s probably because the trend is softer and doesn’t necessarily show on sites with strong growth.
In any case, I’m seeing clear signs across a large enough sampling of sites to indicate that this is a real phenomenon. As college students leave their computers for the beaches every March, we’ll see a decline in total internet traffic. That makes sense of course since many college students spend the majority of their time surfing the net.
