RMHC US scholarships
Competition for scholarships can be fierce, so it’s sometimes ideal to try to find ones that are offered exclusively to certain groups – for example, minorities. The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) gives away 4 types of grants every year, the first is open to everyone, and the other three are for those of Asian, African-American, and Hispanic heritage. It’s a non-profit organization only loosely affiliated with the fast-food chain we all grew up with. McDonalds is their biggest donor, but other companies and individuals pitch in to keep it running.
There are separate specific requirements and application forms for each that can be found here, but the general eligibility requirements according to their website are that a student should:
- Be a high school senior
- Be younger than 21 years old
- Be eligible to attend a two- or four-year college or university with a full course of study
- Be a legal U.S. resident
- Live in a participating RMHC Chapter’s geographic area
- Submit a complete application and all required documentation by the deadline on the application
- Meet any additional eligibility requirements outlined by each scholarship program
- Verification of enrollment each year at the student’s accredited post-secondary institution
You’ll have enough time to prepare as the deadline for the next school year falls on February 16, 2009.
If you don’t qualify to RMHC, try those given by your local government, companies based in your state, your church (if any), charitable institutions and other pro-education groups. Good luck.
